Desk Report: Dengue-related deaths continue to rise, along with an increasing number of infections.
On Sunday, November 24, the country reported the highest single-day death toll of the year from dengue, with 11 people succumbing to the disease in just 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours, 1,079 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country.
This brings the total number of deaths due to dengue this year to 459, while the total number of confirmed cases has reached 86,791.
The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) issued a statement with these details.
The highest number of deaths occurred in Dhaka, where 5 people died in the North City Corporation and 4 in the South City Corporation. Two additional deaths were reported from the Khulna Division.
According to the DGHS, new hospital admissions include 97 people from the Barishal Division, 113 from Chittagong, 272 from the Dhaka Division (outside the city corporations), 194 from Dhaka North City, 121 from Dhaka South City, and 143 from the Khulna Division.
Other regions also saw new admissions: Rajshahi Division with 58, Mymensingh with 35, Rangpur with 58, and Sylhet with 9.
Since the beginning of the year, a total of 86,791 dengue patients have been hospitalized, with 63.20% of the cases being male and 36.80% female. Among the 459 deaths, 51.10% were women and 48.90% were men.
