Dengue Outbreak Claims 21 Lives and Hospitalizes 3,015 Across Bangladesh

Muabia Laboni: In the last 24 hours, Bangladesh has witnessed a grim surge in dengue cases, resulting in the loss of 21 lives and the hospitalization of 3,015 individuals.

This alarming update was reported in a press release issued by the Health Emergency Operations Center and Control Room of the Health Department on Wednesday, September 20.

The press release revealed that within the past day, a staggering 3,015 people across the country have been admitted to hospitals after contracting dengue.

Among them, 857 cases were reported in Dhaka, with an additional 2,158 cases reported in various hospitals outside the capital city.

In the same 24-hour period, a total of 2,833 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals across the nation. Of these, 842 were from different hospitals in Dhaka, while 1,991 were from hospitals outside Dhaka.

The press release also highlighted the unfortunate loss of 21 lives due to dengue within the last 24 hours, with 10 fatalities reported in Dhaka and 11 outside the capital city.

This year, the total death toll from dengue has reached 867, with 588 fatalities in Dhaka and 279 outside the city.

As of September 20 of the current year, a total of 1,076,810 individuals have been afflicted by dengue in Bangladesh. Of these cases, 758,833 were recorded in Dhaka, and 317,977 cases were reported outside the capital city.

Since the beginning of the year, a total of 1,656,680 dengue patients have been discharged from hospitals. Among them, 714,426 were discharged from various hospitals in Dhaka, while 942,254 were discharged from hospitals outside Dhaka.

Currently, there are 10,263 dengue patients receiving treatment in hospitals across the country. Of these, 3,819 are in Dhaka, and 6,444 are in hospitals outside the capital city.
