Dbarta24 Health Desk — Bangladesh’s dengue situation continues to intensify as two more fatalities were reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease to 67 this year.
According to the latest bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Saturday afternoon, 730 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country during the 24-hour period ending at 8:00 AM today.
Regional hospitalization data reveals that the capital remains a major epicenter for transmission.
Dhaka North City Corporation recorded the highest single-day admissions with 171 patients, followed by Dhaka South City Corporation with 137 admissions.
Outside the capital, Khulna division reported 123 hospitalizations, while Barishal division registered 107.
Other regional breakdowns include 89 patients in Chattogram division, 66 in Dhaka division (excluding city corporations), 27 in Mymensingh, and 10 in Rangpur division.
Epidemiological surveillance by DGHS indicates a rapid surge in cases over recent months:
-
Total Cases in 2026: 23,173 hospitalizations recorded nationwide to date.
-
Monthly Trends: August has already seen 7,863 admissions in its first 15 days, following a peak in July with 9,206 hospitalizations and June with 2,907 cases.
-
Fatality Pattern: Out of 67 total deaths this year, August accounts for 13 deaths so far, matching June’s toll of 13. July remains the deadliest month of the year with 36 casualties, while earlier months saw minor spikes (2 in January, 2 in February, and 1 in May).
With seasonal rainfall maintaining vector breeding conditions across urban hubs, public health experts continue to urge coordinated vector control efforts and prompt medical intervention to curb rising hospitalizations.
