Bangladesh Dengue Update: 1 Dead, 110 Hospitalized in 24 Hours

Desk Report – Dengue is tightening its grip right at the onset of the monsoon season, with cases rising steadily across the country. In the last 24 hours, the mosquito-borne disease claimed one more life, while 110 new patients were admitted to hospitals nationwide.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) shared these updates in its regular dengue bulletin on Monday (June 1). With this latest casualty, the total dengue death toll for this year has risen to six, while overall cases have crossed 3,300.

According to the DGHS bulletin, out of the 110 patients hospitalized in the last 24 hours, 35 were from Barishal division (outside the city corporation), 12 from Chittagong, 15 from Dhaka division, 1 from Dhaka North City Corporation, and 12 from Dhaka South City Corporation. Additionally, 21 patients were recorded in Khulna, 8 in Mymensingh, 5 in Rajshahi, and 1 in the Sylhet division (all outside city corporation areas).

The individual who passed away within the last 24 hours was undergoing treatment at a hospital in the Khulna division. This marks the sixth dengue fatality since January this year. Among the deceased, two died in January, two in February, one in May, and one in June.

On a positive note, 83 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 3,138 this year.

So far in 2026, a total of 3,307 people have been infected with dengue. Demographically, 62.6% of the affected patients are male, while 37.4% are female.
