Dhaka Submerged: 33mm Rain Sparks Severe Waterlogging and Plummets Temperature

Muyabia labony ; Dhaka – Following two days of grueling heatwave conditions that scorched 13 southern districts of Bangladesh—pushing Dhaka’s temperature to 35.3°C on Saturday—a sudden heavy downpour on Sunday morning brought relief from the heat but unleashed massive civic distress.

The capital recorded 33 millimeters of rainfall until 6:00 AM, submerging major roads and narrow alleys across the city.

The early morning rain immediately disrupted life for working-class citizens and commuters, leaving many stranded.

After a brief one-hour intermission, another heavy spell of rain recommenced at 7:30 AM, intensifying the waterlogging and turning morning commutes into a severe struggle.

Key transport hubs, including the Mirpur 10 roundabout, were seen completely flooded with knee-deep water by 6:45 AM.

Sharp Fall in Temperature

The rain drastically brought down the capital’s temperature by over 6 degrees Celsius. At 6:00 AM today, Dhaka recorded a cool 22.1°C, a steep decline from yesterday’s sweltering 28.2°C at the same hour.

Meteorological Department Alerts & Forecasts

According to a specialized weather bulletin issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) at 7:00 AM, the sky over Dhaka and adjoining regions will remain partially cloudy until noon.

More rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty winds blowing from the south or south-west at speeds of 10–15 km/h are expected throughout the day.
