Dhaka Traffic Crackdown: DMP Files 2,323 Cases in Single Day; Mirpur Records Highest Violations

Spccial Correspondent; Dhaka — In a major push to restore order on the capital’s chaotic streets, the Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) launched a massive coordinated crackdown, filing 2,323 cases against traffic violators in a single day.

The drive targeted severe law violations across various strategic points in Dhaka, leading to the dumping of 479 vehicles and the towing of another 345 via wreckers.

According to an official press release issued on Wednesday by Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, the special operations were conducted throughout Tuesday (June 23).

Mirpur and Motijheel Lead in Violations

Legal actions were taken against a wide array of vehicles, including public transport buses, cargo trucks, covered vans, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles.

The statistical breakdown reveals that the Mirpur Traffic Division topped the list with a staggering 512 cases. The commercial hub of Motijheel followed closely behind with 463 cases, while the Uttara Traffic Division recorded 462 cases.

The official data distributed among various traffic zones highlights the widespread nature of the enforcement drive:

  • Mirpur Division: 512 cases

  • Motijheel Division: 463 cases

  • Uttara Division: 462 cases

  • Gulshan Division: 242 cases

  • Wari Division: 211 cases

  • Tejgaon Division: 169 cases

  • Lalbagh Division: 166 cases

  • Ramna Division: 97 cases

Commitment to Safer Roads

DMP authorities emphasized that the primary objective of this intensive drive is to ensure long-term discipline on the roads and to optimize the city’s struggling traffic management system.

Law enforcement officials reiterated that these operations are not isolated incidents but part of a routine, sustained effort to curb illegal parking, reckless driving, and lack of valid registration documentation.

The DMP’s Traffic Division confirmed that similar strict enforcement operations will continue across the capital in the coming days to maintain public safety and smooth vehicular movement.
