Crime Desk – In a major sweep against rampant traffic violations across the capital, the Traffic Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has registered 2,104 cases against non-compliant vehicles and drivers.

The extensive law enforcement drive also resulted in the impounding and towing of hundreds of vehicles disrupting Dhaka’s transit system.

According to an official press release issued by the DMP on Thursday (July 2, 2026), the operations spanned multiple strategic zones in the metropolitan area to enforce discipline on the roads and curb unauthorized vehicular movement.

Divisional Breakdown of Traffic Cases

The police drive targeted various categories of transport, including public buses, freight trucks, covered vans, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and motorcycles. The Wari division recorded the highest number of violations during the crackdown.

Heavy Penalties: Damping and Wrecker Actions

Beyond filing standard cases, traffic authorities took strict physical action against vehicles operating without proper documentation, violating route permits, or parking illegally.

A total of 574 vehicles were sent to the dumping station, while 337 vehicles were towed away using police wreckers to clear heavily congested traffic arteries.

DMP’s traffic division has reiterated its commitment to continuing these stringent drives in the coming days.

Senior officials emphasized that regular crackdowns are essential to ease the city’s notorious gridlocks and cultivate a culture of law-abiding driving among commuter groups, particularly motorcyclists and commercial bus operators who frequently bypass traffic regulations.
