District Coordinator of Anti-Discrimination Student Movement Arrested

Sylhet Correspondent: Akhtar Hossain, the Sylhet district coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has been arrested by the police. He was detained early Sunday morning (March 23) from the Ausha area under the Jalalabad police station in Sylhet.

Shah Paran (Rh.) Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Monir Hossain, confirmed the incident.

The arrest follows an altercation between two groups during a speech at the Iftar Mahfil organized by the National Citizen Party at the Aman Ullah Convention Hall in the city on Saturday. A case was filed later that night, naming 7-8 individuals in connection with the incident.

On December 6 of last year, Akhtar Hossain was appointed as the coordinator, Nurul Islam as the member secretary, Naim Shehzad as the chief organizer, and Maleka Khatun Sara as the spokesperson for the Sylhet district committee of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The committee was approved by the then coordinator of the organization, Hasnat Abdullah, and member secretary Arif Sohail.
