Khairul Alam: After opening to the general public on September 3rd, the Dhaka Elevated Expressway has collected tolls exceeding 500 million Bangladeshi Taka in just three weeks, according to authorities.
Project Director AHMS Akhtar stated that from Sunday morning until 6 AM, a total of 621,152 vehicles have utilized the Dhaka Elevated Expressway.
On September 2nd, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Dhaka Elevated Expressway’s Bimanbandar-Farmgate section, with a toll of 2,000 Taka for each of the 25 cars in her convoy.
On September 3rd, starting at 6 AM, the section from the airport to Farmgate was opened for public use, reducing travel time to 10 to 12 minutes.
Project Director AHMS Akhtar said, “We had anticipated using approximately 20,000 vehicles on the expressway daily.”
Once the Dhaka Elevated Expressway project is completed, it will run from Kaula in the capital to Kutubkhali, covering areas such as Banani, Mohakhali, Tejgaon, Moghbazar, Kamalapur, Sayedabad, and Jatrabari.
Akhtar expressed optimism that when the project is finished, around 80,000 vehicles will use the Dhaka Elevated Expressway daily.
