Former SP Babul Akter Granted Bail in Wife’s Murder Case

Staff Reporter: Former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter has been granted bail by the High Court in the murder case of his wife, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu.

The bail was granted on Wednesday by the High Court bench of Justice Md. Atowar Rahman and Justice Ali Reza.

It is reported that Babul Akter had applied for bail on August 14 in the Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Court of Chattogram, where his bail was initially rejected by Judge Md. Jasim Uddin on August 18.

Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was murdered on the morning of June 5, 2016, in Chattogram’s Nizam Road while on her way to drop their son off at a school bus.

She was shot and stabbed by assailants. The incident attracted widespread media attention across the country.

At the time of the murder, Babul Akter, the police superintendent, was in Dhaka.

Upon returning to Chattogram, Babul Akter filed a murder case at the police station against unknown assailants.
