Court Report: Under the Digital Security Act, the court has granted permanent bail to Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, in the case registered at Ramna police station in the capital.
Earlier on April 2, the High Court bench had granted him anticipatory bail for six weeks. Surrendering at the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court on May 3, he submitted an anticipatory bail bond obtained from the High Court through a lawyer.
The court accepted his bail on a bond of Taka 20,000. Thereafter, he filed another petition for permanent bail. In view of the application, the court has fixed today for the full hearing on bail.
On Independence Day last March 26, a controversy erupted over a report by Prothom Alo online. A case was registered against Matiur Rahman, editor of Prothom Alo, at Ramna police station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in this incident on the night of March 29.
