Local Correspondent, Cox’s Bazar: 11 fishermen were burnt in a gas cylinder explosion in a fishing boat at Nuniachhara No. 6 Ghat in Cox’s Bazar. The incident took place on Friday (September 1) around 10 a.m. at Nuniachara Ghat No. 6 in Cox’s Bazar Sadar.
The injured are boatman Dulal (37), Shafiq (27), and Dil Ahmed (34). However, the names of the remaining 9 people were not immediately available. Councilor Mizanur Rahman of Ward No. 2 of Cox’s Bazar Municipality confirmed the matter.
The municipal councilor said they were coming to Ghat no. 6 by ferry from the Bay of Bengal. Suddenly there was a loud noise.
Later I found that the cooking gas cylinder on the boat had exploded while it was anchored. 11 fishermen of the boat were burnt in the fire. At that time, the fishermen who were nearby rescued them and brought them to the wharf.
Dulal, the victim boatman, said that he was heating the curry when suddenly the cylinder exploded. 11 people on the boat including me were seriously injured in the explosion. Many are in bad condition. They have been sent to Chittagong Medical Hospital.
