Business Report: India imposed a 40 percent tariff on Sunday (20 August) to discourage its onion exports. Due to this, the price of onion has increased in the Bangladesh market in a single day. Now in the market onion is being sold at 70 to 100 taka per kg.
In such a situation, permission (IP) will be given to import onion from any country of the world except India to keep it within the purchasing power of common people, said Agriculture Minister Dr. Abdur Razzaq.
The minister said these things on Monday (August 21) while talking to journalists in his office at the secretariat.
Denying the weakness of market surveillance, the agriculture minister said, “How much can you control the market in an open market economy?”
It is not an organized government, nor is it the government of the Communist Party of Russia and China. We cannot control the market as we wish. It depends on supply and demand.
He also said, ‘We want to solve this problem in two ways. One is to grow a summer onion crop.
Second, save onions from rotting for a long time.
