Staff Correspondent, Sherpur: Journalist Shafiujjaman Rana, the Upazila Correspondent of the daily Desh Rupantar, who was sentenced to six months in jail in a counterfeit case in Sherpur, has been granted bail.
On Tuesday (March 12) at 5 pm, after the completion of the hearing of both parties in the appellate court, Additional District Magistrate Judge Jebun Nahar issued an interim bail order.
Later in the evening, journalist Shafiujjaman Rana was released from the district jail on bail.
It is learned that on Tuesday afternoon, the legal team of journalist Rana appealed to District Magistrate Abdullah Al Khayrum to cancel the sentence and for bail. Subsequently, he submitted an appeal application to send it to Additional District Magistrate Jebun Nahar’s court for hearing.
