Law Minister’s Claim: Khaleda’s Foreign Medical Treatment Not Politically Hindered

Special Correspondent: Law Minister Anisul Haque has asserted that there has been no political interference in granting permission for Khaleda Zia’s advanced medical treatment abroad. He stated that this is a legal matter and not a political issue.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Anisul Haque clarified, “It’s a legal matter; there is no political question involved.

Her (Khaleda Zia’s) family had requested for her treatment abroad, and the permission for her to travel abroad has been granted according to the law. The conditions set earlier for her to go abroad remain unchanged.”

When asked if the two conditions for Khaleda Zia’s release on parole can be altered, the Law Minister responded, “The law provides for both conditional and unconditional release.

If conditions are imposed, they must be adhered to. I believe the Prime Minister has exercised her power appropriately, and there is no room to revise it.”

He further explained, “The President can pardon and release someone, but they must accept their guilt. If she (Khaleda Zia) seeks forgiveness, it’s her decision. This is a constitutional right; anyone can apply to the President for clemency and to suspend their sentence.”

Anisul Haque also mentioned that there were no conditions imposed on Sheikh Hasina’s foreign trip in 2008, emphasizing that she had complied with the law, traveled abroad, and returned to the country.

He advised Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary-General of the BNP, to be well-informed and provide accurate information to the public.

The Law Minister criticized Mirza Fakhrul’s statement as false and baseless, saying, “I have never made such statements anywhere, at any time.”
