Dbarta24 Sports desk — In a major leadership reshuffle, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially appointed wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das as the new captain of the national One Day International (ODI) team. Litton, who already leads the side in T20 Internationals, will now take charge of Bangladesh’s entire white-ball setup.
The decision was finalized and announced following a crucial BCB board meeting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday evening.
Alongside Litton’s elevation, promising middle-order batter Tawhid Hridoy has been appointed as the vice-captain of the ODI squad. Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain Shanto will retain his role as the captain of the Test team.
Litton succeeds spin-allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, whose tenure came under heavy scrutiny following mixed team performances in recent months.
Miraz took over the ODI reins unexpectedly in 2024 from Najmul Hossain Shanto. Under Miraz’s leadership, Bangladesh played 24 ODIs, securing 10 victories, suffering 13 defeats, with one match ending in a no-result.
Although Litton has previously filled in as stand-in captain on several occasions, this marks his first official appointment as full-time ODI captain.
With his leadership now spanning both 50-over and 20-over formats, the BCB signals a fresh strategy focused on tactical consistency and aggressive modern white-ball cricket.
