Low Pressure Forecast: Rain and Hail Likely in Seven Divisions

Clouds over Dhaka skyline: Dark clouds gathering over Dhaka city as the Met Office predicts rain and thunderstorms.

Muyabia labony; DHAKA – The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted rain across seven divisions due to the influence of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and West Bengal. Along with thunderstorms, scattered hail is also likely in several parts of the country.

Short-Term Forecast (Next 24 Hours)

In a bulletin issued on Saturday (April 18, 2026), the Met Office stated that light to moderate rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning, are likely in some areas of the Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions. Additionally, one or two places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Chattogram divisions may experience similar weather conditions.

Isolated hail storms are also predicted for certain regions. Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies. Day temperatures are likely to drop slightly, while night temperatures will remain largely unchanged.

Extended Outlook (April 19–22)

The Meteorological Department warned that while rain provides a brief reprieve from the heat, temperatures are expected to rise significantly across the country over the next five days starting from the middle of next week.
