Sports Desk; LONDON – Chelsea’s dismal run in the English Premier League continued as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Stamford Bridge. This marks the fourth consecutive loss for the Blues, while United strengthened their grip on a top-five finish and a potential Champions League spot.
Fernandes and Cunha Combine
The decisive moment of the match arrived late in the first half. Captain Bruno Fernandes provided a sublime assist, his 18th of the Premier League season, to find Matheus Cunha, who made no mistake in slotting the ball home.
Fernandes is now just two assists away from equalling the all-time Premier League single-season record of 20 assists, currently held jointly by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.
Chelsea’s Frustration Continues
Despite dominating much of the possession, Chelsea struggled to find a clinical edge. Enzo Fernandez missed a clear chance early on, and the second half saw the Blues intensify their pressure.
However, luck was not on their side as both Liam Delap and Wesley Fofana saw their efforts strike the woodwork. Moises Caicedo also came close in the dying minutes but was denied by a resolute United defense led by Luke Shaw and Diogo Dalot. Chelsea finished the game with 15 shots, but only one managed to test the United keeper.
Champions League Race
With this victory, Manchester United has moved 10 points clear of sixth-placed Chelsea. According to recent statistical models, United’s probability of qualifying for the Champions League has surged to 98.4%. In contrast, Chelsea’s hopes of finishing in the top five have dwindled to a mere 8%.
While United remains in a strong position for European football, Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino faces mounting pressure as the team continues to slide down the table despite heavy investment.
