World Cup Sports Desk — A masterclass performance from Vinícius Júnior guided Brazil to a commanding 3-0 victory over Scotland at the Miami Stadium on Thursday, sealing their spot in the World Cup knockout rounds as the leaders of Group C.
While the match also marked the highly anticipated emotional return of Neymar Jr. to international football after nearly three years, it was Vinícius who absolutely stole the show with a sensational first-half brace.
The Seleção wasted no time asserting their dominance, breaking the deadlock in just the 7th minute.
Capitalizing on a defensive error at the edge of the box by a Scottish defender, Rayan—who started the match following an injury to Raphinha—stole possession and unselfishly set up Vinícius Júnior for an easy finish into the back of the net.
Double Trouble for Scotland
Vinícius struck again during first-half stoppage time to put Brazil firmly in control before the interval.
Midfield maestro Bruno Guimarães floated a pinpoint, long-range cross directly in front of the goal to an unmarked Vinícius, who confidently headed home his second of the match and fourth of the tournament.
Guimarães was instrumental once more in the 60th minute, pulling the strings from just outside Scotland’s penalty box.
His precise, delicate pass found Matheus Cunha in open space, allowing the Manchester United striker to smash a clinical left-footed shot into the net for Brazil’s third goal. The strike marks Cunha’s third goal of the tournament.
Neymar’s Return and Group Standings
With a comfortable 3-0 lead established, Brazil manager introduced Neymar Jr. in the 76th minute as a substitute for Cunha. This marked Neymar’s first appearance in the iconic yellow jersey since October 17, 2023, following a long injury layoff.
With this dominant victory, Brazil finishes at the top of Group C with 7 points. Elsewhere in the group, Morocco secured a 4-2 win over Haiti, also finishing on 7 points.
However, due to a superior goal difference of +3 over the North African side, Brazil advances as group champions, while the Qatar World Cup semifinalists move through as runners-up.
