Measles Outbreak in Bangladesh: 7 More Children Die in 24 Hours

Staff Reporter, Dhaka: The health situation in Bangladesh continues to worsen as seven more children have died of measles and its related complications in the last 24 hours.

Among them, three deaths were officially confirmed from measles, while the other four died displaying clear symptoms of the virus.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the data in its regular measles monitoring report published today, Thursday (May 21, 2026).

According to the official report, these tragic deaths were recorded between 8:00 AM on Wednesday and 8:00 AM on Thursday.

Hospital wards across the capital are facing a surge of distressed patients. On Wednesday, many infected children were seen being rushed into the DNCC Hospital in Mohakhali, Dhaka, where emergency medical teams are providing continuous care, including nebulization treatments, to help them cope with respiratory issues brought on by the infection.

Health authorities have urged parents to remain highly vigilant regarding early symptoms like high fever, cough, runny nose, and rashes, and to ensure their children receive proper vaccination.
