Dbarta24 Health Desk – Six more people have died in Bangladesh after developing symptoms associated with measles over the past 24 hours, including five deaths reported in the Dhaka division.

During the same period, 1,162 people developed measles-like symptoms, while 94 additional cases of measles were confirmed.

The latest figures were released in the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) regular measles situation report on Tuesday.

According to the report, 874 people have died after developing measles-like symptoms across the country since March 15.

In addition, 99 children have died from confirmed measles during the same period. Combined, the number of deaths linked to measles symptoms and confirmed measles has reached 973.

The outbreak has also continued to expand in terms of reported infections. Including the 94 newly confirmed cases recorded over the past 24 hours, a total of 19,312 people have been diagnosed with measles since March 15.

Meanwhile, 1,162 new people developed measles-like symptoms in the latest 24-hour period.

The cumulative number of people who have shown such symptoms since March 15 has now reached 157,991.

Hospitalization figures also indicate the significant pressure created by the outbreak. DGHS data show that 138,445 people with measles-like symptoms have been admitted to hospitals since March 15.

Of those hospitalized, 133,404 people have received treatment and subsequently been discharged after recovery.

The latest DGHS figures highlight the continuing scale of the measles situation in Bangladesh, with both suspected cases and confirmed infections being reported across the country.

The concentration of five of the latest six symptom-related deaths in Dhaka division also underscores the need for continued surveillance and appropriate medical care.
