Dbarta24 Report — Residents in the capital city of Dhaka and adjacent areas felt a minor tremor in the early hours of Monday morning, according to official meteorological reports.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) confirmed on its official website that a mild earthquake measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale struck the region at precisely 5:32 AM (BST).
Seismological Details & Epicenter
Data released by the BMD indicates that the epicenter was located in Shibpur Upazila of Narsingdi district, approximately 47 kilometers northeast of Dhaka. The focal depth of the seismic event was recorded at 10 kilometers below the surface, classifying it as a shallow earthquake.
Due to the low magnitude, no immediate reports of structural damage or casualties were recorded following the early morning shake.
Growing Concerns Over Regional Seismic Activity
While Monday’s event produced relatively light tremors, the region remains under close observation by seismic experts.
Narsingdi has emerged as an active zone for minor tremors over recent months, having experienced several seismic events last year that resulted in localized disruption and casualties.
Geologists note that shallow-focus earthquakes originating near urban corridors like Narsingdi—even at low magnitudes—serve as a reminder of the heightened seismic vulnerability across central Bangladesh.
Authorities continue to urge vigilance and adherence to structural safety standards across major metropolitan areas.
