Sports Report ; BCB: Bangladesh women’s national team players Nahida Akter and Sharmin Sultana have been fined 10% of their match fees for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Rajshahi last Wednesday.
Left-arm spinner Nahida Akter was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code, which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal.”
The incident occurred in the 17th window of the Sri Lankan innings when Nahida gave a “send-off” to captain Chamari Athapaththu by pointing toward the pavilion.
Opening batter Sharmin Sultana was penalized under Article 2.8, which deals with “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.”
After being given out LBW in the 16th over of the Bangladesh innings, Sharmin pointed to her bat in frustration and delayed leaving the crease.
In addition to the fines, one demerit point each has been added to the disciplinary records of both players. This marks their first offense within a 24-month period.
Both players admitted to the offenses and accepted the sanctions proposed by Match Referee Supriya Rani Das, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Rokeya Sultana, third umpire Dolly Rani Sarkar, and fourth umpire Sathira Jakir.
