Peaceful polling should be held in Bangladesh on time: India

Khairul Alam: India reiterated its previous stand in Bangladesh elections. The country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said on Friday that New Delhi wants elections to be held in Bangladesh in a peaceful manner on time.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said this in response to a question about the election situation in Bangladesh at the weekly briefing of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi on Friday.

Several questions were asked at the briefing regarding the continuing agitation of the opposition party BNP regarding the national election of Bangladesh, the demand for the formation of a caretaker government during the election and the possibility of third party interference in the election.

In response to this, Arindam Bagchi said, “A few days ago I was informed about the stand of the Government of India on this issue. That attitude remains unchanged. It is not proper to comment on what is going on inside Bangladesh.

And in the constitution of Bangladesh it is mentioned whether there will be a caretaker government or not. That’s why it is not appropriate to say anything about it.

Arindam Bagchi also said, ‘I do not think it is right to comment on a hypothetical issue like the possibility of third party interference. India wants the elections to be peaceful and on time.

A recent editorial article in an all-India daily suggested that third party interference could arise amid electoral complications in Bangladesh.
