Santiago Tops Global Air Pollution List; Where Does Dhaka Stand?

Online Desk – Air pollution is rising globally every day due to climate change and various development activities. Today, Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka, ranks 15th on the world air pollution list with an air quality score of 87.

On the other hand, Santiago, the capital and largest city of Chile, tops the list with an “unhealthy” score of 160. Wuhan, China, holds the second position with a score of 153, which is also considered unhealthy.

This data was revealed on Tuesday (June 2) morning by IQAir, a global air quality monitoring organization.

According to the IQAir index:

  • 0–50: Good air quality.

  • 51–100: Moderate or tolerable air quality.

  • 101–150: Unhealthy for sensitive groups.

  • 151–200: Unhealthy.

  • 201–300: Very unhealthy.

  • 301+: Hazardous/Disastrous.

With a score of 87, Dhaka’s air quality is currently in the “moderate” or tolerable zone. The air quality in the capital has remained relatively better and tolerable for the past few days due to the Holy Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
