Desk Report: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has issued new guidelines regarding the consumption of the sacred Zamzam water.
According to the ministry, individuals should maintain calmness and seek Allah’s pleasure while drinking the holy water.
The guidelines further recommend that when drinking Zamzam water at the Holy Kaaba or the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, people should remember Allah, drink with their right hand, and maintain cleanliness.
It is also advised that care be taken to prevent the water from spilling, and that individuals avoid performing ablution using the Zamzam water taps.
Moreover, the ministry urges pilgrims to place their cups in designated areas after drinking, avoid pushing and shoving, refrain from overcrowding, and maintain good manners.
Thousands of Muslims flock to Mecca daily to perform Umrah, and after completing their pilgrimage, many head to Medina to visit the Prophet’s Mosque.
Zamzam water, known for its purity, is distributed at the two holiest sites in Islam – the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and the Masjid al-Nabawi in Medina.
The new directives were issued in anticipation of the upcoming Umrah season.
Zamzam water holds special significance for devout Muslims. Many pilgrims bring back Zamzam water as a gift for family and friends after their pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.
The Zamzam well, located just 20 meters from the Kaaba and 30 meters underground, has been quenching the thirst of millions of pilgrims for centuries.
It is believed to have been miraculously created for the son of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), Prophet Ismail (Ishmael).
Drinking Zamzam water is considered highly meritorious for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, and is recommended for all Muslims.
It is reported in authentic Hadiths that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) himself drank from the Zamzam well.
Pilgrims can now book a specific quantity of Zamzam water through the Nusuk app, which has recently been made available to Bangladeshi users as well.
