Khairul Alam: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina remarked that Ziaur Rahman was closely involved in the 15 August assassination.
She said this in the presidential address at the commemoration meeting organized by the Awami League on the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu International Convention Center on Wednesday (August 16) afternoon.
Sheikh Hasina said, “The killers changed the name of Bangladesh with the murder of Bangabandhu.” The Islamic Republic declared a state. Bangladesh Betar changed its name to Radio Bangladesh. The slogan of Zindabad came in place of the Joy Bangla slogan.
All the dreams of development of the people of Bangladesh stopped. The killer Mushtaq declared himself the President and made Zia the army chief. Ziaur Rahman has a deep hand in this murder.
Zia seized power. Urdi also tried to reach power and later establish himself as a politician. The army broke the rules and got the presidential election done. The rigging of votes and theft of votes started from there itself. Then a party named BNP had done this.
She said August 15 is the most reprehensible chapter in the life of the Bengali nation. The saddest incident of independent Bangladesh.
On that day the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his entire family were killed by an assassin’s bullet. Such a terrible incident in history happened in the land of Bengal. It also beats the incident of Karbala.
