Sports Desk: It seems Vaibhav Suryavanshi is on a relentless mission to claim every batting record in existence.
The 15-year-old Indian prodigy has shattered the world record by smashing a half-century in just 11 balls in 50-over cricket, marking the fastest-ever fifty in the history of List A cricket.
Suryavanshi achieved this historic milestone playing for India ‘A’ against Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the final of the Tri-Nation series today in Dambulla.
Interestingly, Suryavanshi was recently under fire for an on-field altercation during a match against the hosts on June 15, where he shoved Lankan player Bishen Halambage in a losing cause.
However, the youngster answered his critics in style today by tearing apart the Lankan bowling attack.
Breaking a 21-Year-Old Record
With this breathtaking innings, Suryavanshi broke the long-standing record of Sri Lanka’s Kaushalya Weeraratne, who had scored a 12-ball fifty back in 2005.
To put things into perspective, the Bihar-born Indian sensation was born six years after Weeraratne set that previous record.
A Boundary-Fest in Dambulla
During his astonishing 11-ball blitz to fifty, Suryavanshi scored boundaries off 10 deliveries, which included 5 towering sixes, facing just a single dot ball.
After reaching the fastest fifty, the teenage sensation looked well on his way to a spectacular century.
However, his explosive innings was cut short when he offered a catch to mid-off off Sahan Arachchige’s bowling. He departed after a sensational 94 runs off just 29 balls, a knock laced with 10 boundaries and 8 maximums.
Suryavanshi’s historic knock has not only propelled India ‘A’ into a commanding position but has also signaled the arrival of cricket’s next big global superstar.
