Tanzid Hasan Tamim Scores Brisk Fifty Before Falling as Bangladesh Dominates Aussie Attack

Khairul Alam From Mirpur Stadium ; Dhaka — Opening batter Tanzid Hasan Tamim smashed a rapid half-century to put Bangladesh in a commanding position against Australia, despite an early batting collapse in the opening overs.

After being sent in to bat, Bangladesh lost opener Saif Hassan in only the second over of the innings. However, a dominant 96-run partnership between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Tanzid Hasan Tamim completely shifted the momentum back to the visitors.

Tanzid reached his half-century in clinical style but was dismissed shortly after, giving a catch to Xavier Bartlett off the bowling of Nathan Ellis. Bangladesh lost their second wicket with the scoreboard reading 106 runs.

Counter-Attacking the Australian Pace

Tanzid’s entertaining knock of 54 runs came off just 44 balls, laced with seven boundaries and a towering six. Following his dismissal, Litton Das joined the well-set Shanto at the crease to steady the innings. By the end of the 17th over, Bangladesh moved to 107 for the loss of 2 wickets.

While Nathan Ellis posed occasional challenges to the batting side, the duo of Shanto and Tanzid handled the rest of the Australian bowling attack with absolute ease.

Throughout their partnership, neither batter looked uncomfortable, consistently finding boundaries nearly every over to keep the run rate hovering comfortably above 6 runs per over. Tanzid brought up his 7th career One-Day International (ODI) half-century off just 41 deliveries.

Bangladesh witnessed its first maximum in the ninth over off Tanzid’s bat. In the very next over, Shanto welcomed debutant Liam Scott by smashing his first delivery over long-on for a massive six.

Early Blow Failed to Slow the Momentum

Despite the early setback, the Tigers maintained an aggressive scoring tempo. The Australian bowlers struggled to put the Bangladeshi batters under pressure, while Shanto and Tanzid continuously forced the field into defensive positions. Bangladesh capitalized heavily during the powerplay, putting up 62 runs on the scoreboard within the first 10 overs.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh suffered their first blow in the second over. Nathan Ellis delivered a full-length ball outside the off-stump that swung away at the last second. Saif Hassan attempted a drive, only to edge the ball toward the slip cordon.

Marnus Labuschagne made no mistake, diving full-stretch to his right to pluck a spectacular two-handed catch to send Saif back to the pavilion.
