Political Report: Today is the 18th anniversary of the nationwide serial bomb blasts. On August 17, 2005, a terrorist organization called Jamatul Mujahiden Bangladesh (JMB) planned a series of simultaneous bomb attacks in 63 districts of the country.
Two people were killed and at least 104 were injured in this attack. Bomb attacks were carried out at about 500 points in all the districts of Bangladesh except Munshiganj.
According to police headquarters and RAB data, 159 cases were registered across the country soon after the incident.
These include 18 in Dhaka metropolitan area , 8 in Chottogram metropolitan area , 4 in Rajshahi metropolitan area , 3 in Khulna metropolitan area , 12 in Barisal metropolitan area , 10 in Sylhet metropolitan area , 23 in Dhaka Range, 11 in Chittagong Division, 7 in Rajshahi Division, 23 in Khulna Division, 7 in Barisal Division Division,16 in Sylhet Division, 8 in Rangpur Division, Mymensingh Division 6 and 3 cases in Railway Divisional Range.
Out of these, 142 cases were filed in the court. In the remaining 17 cases, final reports were given as the accused could not be identified even though the incident was true. 961 people were arrested in these cases. Charge sheets were filed against 1 thousand 72 people.
Since this incident, the Awami League is observing this day as Serial Bombing Day. On this day the party held protest meetings across the country.
Centrally, there will be a protest rally jointly by Dhaka Metropolitan North and South in front of the central office of the Awami League on Thursday (August 17) afternoon.
