Daily Report: The government has decided to take comments on the proposed ‘Cyber Security Act’ for 14 days. The draft law has already been put on the website for comments.
The government will also take the opinion of the concerned stakeholders regarding the draft law.
Law Minister Mr. Anisul Haq said this in a press conference on Thursday. The Law Minister said that if necessary, the opinion of the concerned stakeholders will be taken regarding the draft law.
The government has decided to make a new law called the ‘Cyber Security Act’ by making several changes to the widely discussed Digital Security Act. This decision was taken in the cabinet meeting last Monday.
The Minister said that the Digital Security Act has not been repealed but has been amended. The word ‘cyber’ has been replaced by the word ‘digital’. This has been done to clarify the scope of the Act. The type of cybercrime has also changed in the world. That’s why I made a law called cyber security.
He said that there is a provision for high punishment in many sections of the Digital Security Act, due to which controversy has arisen. Certain categories of offenses were non-bailable.
The punishment has been reduced by changing these things. Section 29 of the earlier Act had imprisonment and a fine, but the new Act now has only a fine.
Addressing the critics of the new law, Anisul Haq said, “If you look at the new law next to the Digital Security Act, it will definitely look changed.”
Many people say, without knowing it, old wine in a new bottle. Those who say this are criticizing for the sake of criticizing, not for knowing.
