Dbarta24 Desk — Decades after tearing up the racetrack as hotshot driver Cole Trickle, Tom Cruise is returning to the high-octane world of NASCAR—this time alongside Academy Award-winner Anne Hathaway.

Paramount Pictures has officially greenlit a long-awaited sequel to the 1990 classic action-drama Days of Thunder, bringing together two of Hollywood’s biggest stars for a major cinematic release.

As reported by Variety, the upcoming sequel is scheduled to hit theaters on June 2, 2028, arriving nearly 40 years after the late Tony Scott’s original film captured the speed and intensity of professional stock car racing.

In the modern follow-up, Cruise will reprise his role as the fiercely competitive racer Cole Trickle. Hathaway steps into a prominent co-starring role as a dynamic race car engineer and team owner, establishing a powerful dynamic on and off the track.

The casting was enthusiastically celebrated on Saturday (August 29) when Cruise shared a photo of himself with Hathaway at a NASCAR racetrack, officially confirming her addition to the project.

Directed by Jonathan Levine, the high-budget sequel promises an unparalleled visual experience for theatergoers.

The film will be shot specifically using IMAX cameras and is slated for an exclusive theatrical rollout featuring premium audio-visual formats, including Dolby Cinema and 4DX.

Producing the feature alongside Cruise are industry giants Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper.

This project marks Cruise’s first major venture following the conclusion of his historic work on the Mission: Impossible franchise.

The action star continues a packed slate of high-profile projects, which includes an upcoming installment in the Top Gun series and Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s drama Digger.

Hathaway is similarly maintaining a powerhouse schedule. Alongside her newly announced role in Days of Thunder, her upcoming commitments include The Devil Wears Prada 2, the thriller Verity, and the highly anticipated third installment of The Princess Diaries.

With two generation-defining actors headlining a beloved franchise under IMAX-scale production, the Days of Thunder sequel is poised to be one of the definitive cinematic events of summer 2028.
