Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: An operation has been conducted in Ukhiya Upazila of Cox’s Bazar to arrest four individuals, including both local and foreign nationals, who were found with arms and ammunition in Rohingya camps.
Among them, the Bangladesh Chief Commander of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) has also been apprehended, as confirmed by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
From midnight on Wednesday (March 13) until Thursday morning, an operation was carried out at Block A-5 of Extension Camp 20 in Ukhiya Upazila, resulting in the arrest of the suspects.
This information was disclosed by Lieutenant Colonel H A Sajjad Hossen, the commanding officer of RAB-15 Cox’s Bazar Battalion, during a press briefing on Thursday afternoon.
The arrested individuals include Mohammad Karim Ullah, alias Master Kalim Ullah (32), son of Ahmed Hossen from Block M-33 of Rohingya camp in Ghonarpara, Mohammad Akiz (27), son of late Mohammad Kayser from Block E-15 of Kutupalong camp, Mohammad Zobayer (29), son of Abul Hossen from Block E-3 of Balukhali camp, and Saber Hossen, alias Maulvi Saber (35), son of late Hasmat Ullah from Block B-4 of camp 22 in Teknaf Upazila.
Sajjad Hossen stated that on Wednesday midnight, RAB received intelligence that a top commander of ARSA along with several armed individuals was present at a hidden location within the camp, intending to engage in criminal activities. Acting on this information, a team from RAB conducted the operation.
Upon reaching the scene, they were met with resistance from the ARSA terrorists, who opened fire. In self-defense, the RAB members also fired back. Eventually, four individuals were successfully apprehended by RAB after a brief exchange of gunfire.
