Tragedy Strikes Mirpur as Lightning Claims Four Lives and Injures Five

Crime Report: In Mirpur, four individuals lost their lives, while five others sustained injuries due to an electrical mishap.

The incident occurred on Thursday night, September 21st, at Hazi Road Jhilpar Basti, just opposite the Sirajia Islamic Madrasa on Hazi Road in Mirpur.

Reports indicate that heavy rainfall in the area led to waterlogging. During the downpour, lightning struck, leaving five individuals critically injured.

Local residents rescued the injured and transported them to Sohrawardi Hospital, where unfortunately, four of them succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Mr. Mizan (aged 30), his wife Mukta Begum (aged 25), their daughter Lima (aged 7), and Mohammad Onik (aged 20), who had attempted to rescue them. Another child of Mr. Mizan, named Hossein (aged 7 months), is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place near Dhaka Commerce College, in close proximity to a power line, where a power surge occurred during the incident.

Deputy Officer of the Fire Service Control Room, Ershad, reported that they received news around 10 PM that four individuals had lost their lives in a lightning strike in the area of Dhaka Commerce College. They were retrieved from the scene and transported to the hospital.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Ruhul Amin of Mirpur Model Police Station stated that they were informed by Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College that four individuals had lost their lives.

Local sources have revealed that there was heavy rainfall in various parts of the capital city starting in the evening, causing flooding in some areas. In some localities, the rainfall was particularly intense between 10 PM and 11 PM. Consequently, waterlogging occurred on Hazi Road, leading to electrical wires coming into contact with the water. This resulted in an electrical mishap, leading to the tragic loss of four lives.

Five other individuals were injured in the electrical mishap and are currently receiving medical treatment at Shaheed Suhrawardi Medical College Hospital.
