International Desk – In a historic move toward ending conflict and establishing permanent peace, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
President Trump signed the MoU on Wednesday while staying at the historic Palace of Versailles in France. “The agreement has been signed. I just signed it in Versailles,” Trump later told reporters. The US President is currently visiting France to attend the G7 Summit.
The announcement came to light during a meeting between Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the summit.
French President Emmanuel Macron shared a video of Trump signing the agreement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
In his post, Macron confirmed that President Trump had signed the treaty aimed at establishing peace between the United States and Iran.
Iran also confirmed the signing by President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei told the state news agency IRNA that the draft of the MoU has been finalized with the President’s signature. He added that the implementation and verification phases of the agreement will now begin.
Baghaei further revealed that the MoU was signed electronically, meaning both presidents signed it remotely from their respective locations. He noted that Iran has no plans for a separate formal ceremony.
Previously, the Swiss government had announced that a formal signing ceremony would take place on Friday at a luxury hotel in the mountainous region of Lake Lucerne.
US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf were scheduled to attend. However, both nations announced the completion of the MoU a day ahead of schedule.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who mediated the peace process, stated in a post on X that the agreement will go into effect immediately.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US administration released the 14-point MoU document signed with Iran, with a senior US official reading out its core contents.
