Diplomatic Correspondent; Dbarta24 – The United States Embassy in Dhaka has issued a fresh advisory warning Bangladeshi nationals against violating the conditions of B1/B2 visitor visas.
In an official message published on its verified Facebook page on Saturday, the embassy clarified specific prohibited activities while traveling on short-term visas, including “birth tourism,” unapproved employment, and enrolling in academic degree programs.
The warning aims to curb visa misuse and ensure strict compliance with federal immigration laws.
Embassy officials highlighted that B1/B2 visas are intended solely for temporary tourism, short-term business meetings, or medical treatment.
Key activities explicitly restricted under the B1/B2 visitor visa include:
-
Birth Tourism: Traveling to the U.S. primarily to give birth so the child acquires U.S. citizenship is strictly unauthorized.
-
Remunerated Employment: Engaging in any work or service paid for by a U.S.-based employer or enterprise is prohibited.
-
Academic Enrollment: Pursuing full-time study or coursework toward an academic degree or official credit is not permitted.
This announcement follows a similar warning issued on August 22 directed at Bangladeshi student visa holders.
That notice cautioned that students risk visa cancellation if they drop out, fail to attend classes regularly, work beyond permissible limits, or alter their academic status without notifying their institution.
The Embassy’s consecutive advisories reflect heightened monitoring by federal authorities to ensure international travelers strictly adhere to U.S. immigration laws.
