Visa Policy to Include Media: Peter Haas

This includes members of the government, opposition parties, and law enforcement agencies. The media will also be part of the visa policy in the future.

Diplomatic Correspondent: Peter Haas, the appointed US Ambassador to Dhaka, has announced that the media will be included in the visa policy in the near future.

He stated that the United States has imposed visa restrictions on individuals responsible for obstructing the democratic election process in Bangladesh.

This includes members of the government, opposition parties, and law enforcement agencies. The media will also be part of the visa policy in the future.

Previously, on September 22, the US State Department issued a statement, stating, “Today, the State Department is imposing visa restrictions on Bangladeshi individuals responsible for undermining or obstructing the democratic election process in Bangladesh.

Among those affected are members of law enforcement agencies, powerful political parties, and political opposition.”

The statement further said, “Our action today bolsters the unequivocal and impartial international observation of Bangladesh’s national election process. It also supports those around the world who seek to advance democracy.”

Earlier, in May of the coming year, the US Secretary of State had announced a new visa policy for Bangladesh.

It highlighted the importance of free, fair, and peaceful elections in the country and clarified that individuals responsible for obstructing democratic elections in Bangladesh will not be granted US visas.
