Khairul Alam : US Ambassador of Bangladesh Peter Haas said that the United States does not stand for any political party. The United States is in favor of the democratic process, he said.
He said this to reporters after a courtesy meeting with Awami League General Secretary Obaidul kader.
A meeting between Peter Haas and Obaidul Kader took place at the central office of the Awami League on Thursday (August 3) from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm.
Haas also said that he told US stand for election with Awami League, other parties and law enforcement agencies. I have informed everyone about America’s policy. I have asked everyone including the Awami League to make the next election free, fair and impartial.
Peter Haas said that the United States does not support any particular party. We support a democratic process that will help the people of Bangladesh choose their next government.
This meeting with the Awami League is part of the meetings that I have had with various partners in Bangladesh, he said. I met other political parties, media outlets, civil society, police and security forces. It’s also part of what I do as US ambassador.
Peter Haas said, in every meeting I repeated the same message and that it is our policy that we support free, fair and peaceful elections, without any violence.
We believe everyone has a role to play in making elections free, fair and peaceful. The government has a role to play in this, media, other political parties, civil society and the judiciary, the security forces and of course the electorate have a role to play.
