“International Desk : US President Donald Trump has signaled that the recent loss of an American combat aircraft over Iranian territory will not act as a barrier to ongoing diplomatic efforts. Speaking in a brief phone interview with NBC News on Friday, the President dismissed concerns that the escalation would end back-channel talks aimed at resolving the five-week-long conflict.

The Incidents: F-15E and A-10 Losses

The White House confirmed that an F-15E Strike Eagle was shot down within Iranian airspace. While one crew member has reportedly been recovered and is receiving medical treatment, a massive search-and-rescue operation is currently underway for the second airman. Compounding the day’s losses, a second aircraft—an A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog)—crashed in the Persian Gulf region near the Strait of Hormuz. The pilot of the A-10 was safely rescued after ejecting.

Trump’s Stance on Diplomacy

When asked by NBC’s Garrett Haake if these military setbacks would influence the diplomatic process, Trump was blunt:

“No, not at all. No, it’s war. We’re in war.”

The President expressed visible frustration with media coverage of the “sensitive military issue,” suggesting that premature reporting could jeopardize the active rescue mission.

Uncertainty Over Missing Pilot

In a separate conversation with The Independent, Trump refused to speculate on a response should the missing F-15E pilot be captured or harmed by Iranian forces. “We hope that’s not going to happen,” he noted, while White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed the President is being briefed hourly on the “complex and active” situation on the ground.
