International Desk : Iran has officially rejected a ceasefire proposal from the United States, demanding a permanent end to the conflict rather than a temporary pause.
On Tuesday (April 7), the Iranian news agency IRNA reported that Iran set specific conditions for peace, with a permanent ceasefire being at the top of the list.
Why Iran says “No” to a temporary truce
According to Al Jazeera’s Mohammad Vall, reporting from Tehran, Iran believes a temporary ceasefire does not solve the root problem. Iran fears that a pause would simply give the U.S. and Israel more time to prepare for an even more “destructive phase” of the war later.
Iran’s Main Demands:
-
A Comprehensive Peace Deal: Iran wants a regional agreement that stops attacks in Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, and Iran.
-
Security Guarantees: They seek a formal guarantee that no future attacks will be launched against Iranian territory.
-
Economic Compensation: Iran has suffered massive infrastructure damage. To fund reconstruction, they are proposing a new system to collect tolls in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran maintains that they have already paid a high price in this conflict and will only agree to a deal that ensures long-term stability and economic recovery.
