Health Desk – The measles outbreak in Bangladesh continues to take a devastating toll, with 10 more children dying of measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours.
Among the deceased, one child was a confirmed measles patient, while the remaining nine exhibited severe symptoms of the disease.
With these latest fatalities, the total death toll has climbed to 555 over the past 72 days. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the casualties include 467 children who died with symptoms and 88 who were laboratory-confirmed measles cases.
Regional Breakdown of Recent Deaths
The latest daily report from the DGHS, released on Tuesday, highlights that the Dhaka division remains the hardest-hit region, accounting for 5 of the 10 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Additionally, 2 deaths were recorded in the Mymensingh division, while the Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Barisal divisions reported 1 death each.
Rising Hospitalizations and Current Statistics
In the last 24 hours alone, 1,083 new cases with measles symptoms have been identified nationwide. During this period, 945 children were admitted to various hospitals due to complications arising from the symptoms.
Dhaka division topped the daily admission list with 366 children, followed by:

On a positive note, 1,181 patients were discharged from hospitals across the country within the last 24 hours.
72-Day Outbreak Overview
Since the first official measles case of this outbreak was detected on March 15, the virus has spread rapidly. Over the last 72 days, a staggering 66,023 children have shown symptoms of the disease, leading to 52,530 hospital admissions.
The total number of laboratory-confirmed measles infections currently stands at 8,772. Meanwhile, 48,800 children have successfully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
