15 Killed as Rod-Laden Truck Flips Near Jamuna Bridge in Tangail

 Tangail Correspondent –  At least 15 people were killed and 10 others injured after a rod-laden, North Bengal-bound truck lost control and overturned near the eastern end of the Jamuna Bridge in Tangail.

The tragic accident took place in the Soratoil area under Jamuna Bridge East Police Station in the early hours of Monday.

Fuad Rohani, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamuna Bridge East Police Station, confirmed the incident. He stated that the Dhaka-bound truck carrying steel rods lost control around 5:00 AM upon reaching Soratoil. The vehicle flipped over on the highway, leaving 15 people dead on the spot.

“Police, Fire Service personnel, and local residents are jointly conducting the rescue operation. The injured have been rescued and rushed to Tangail General Hospital,” the OC added.

S.M. Humayun Karnaek, Deputy Director of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, reiterated the casualties, noting that four of the critically injured individuals have been admitted to Tangail General Hospital.

Dr. Sadikur Rahman, Deputy Director of the hospital, confirmed that 15 bodies were brought to the morgue, and four critically injured patients are currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.

Victims Identified

Out of the 15 deceased, eight have been initially identified. They are:

  • Md. Sagar Miah (20), son of Sakim Miah, Manda, Naogaon.

  • Rabiul Islam (25), son of Shahidul Islam, Manda, Naogaon.

  • Ismail Hossain (19), son of Altaf Hossain, Tanore, Rajshahi.

  • Nazrul (60), Shibganj, Chapainawabganj.

  • Mamun (45), Chapainawabganj Sadar.

  • Sarikul (25), son of Saidul, Niamatpur, Naogaon.

  • Md. Bari (21), son of Abdur Rashid, Manda, Naogaon.

  • Badsha (32), son of Abdur Rahim, Manda, Naogaon.

Among the injured are Babu (35), Abdul Rahman (35), Nayan Biswas (32), Tuhin, Alamgir (40), Siddique Ali (40), Khorshed (26), and Somej.

Grief in Manda Upazila

Local authorities confirmed that a significant number of the victims hailed from the Manda Upazila of Naogaon district.

Manda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khorshed Alam stated, “We have learned through various channels that at least nine of the deceased are residents of different villages under our police station.

We are actively gathering details to verify their complete identities and professions, and our team is cooperating fully with the families.”
