175 world leaders open letter to Sheikh Hasina on behalf of Dr. Yunus

Khairul Alam: 175 world leaders demanded to suspend ongoing legal proceedings against Nobel Peace Prize winning economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus. At the same time, they want to make the upcoming parliamentary elections of Bangladesh fair and participatory. They have given an open letter to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mentioning these issues.

Among the signatories of the letter are former US President Barack Obama, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, East Timor President Jose Ramos Horta, former Irish President Mary Robinson and former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Sam Daley-Harris said in a statement.

In the letter, published on Monday (28 August) it said that , we are concerned about the recent targeting of him (Dr Yunus) and what we believe is a continuing process of judicial harassment.

Earlier this year in March for the first time 40 world leaders wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressing concern over Dr. Yunus’s ‘safety and freedom’.
