18-Year-Old Gout Gout Shatters Usain Bolt’s Record

Gout Gout celebrating after breaking Usain Bolt's 200m Under-20 record.

Sports Desk; Sydney: A new storm has emerged on the tracks of Sydney. 18-year-old sprinting sensation Gout Gout has stunned the world by completing the 200m sprint in just 19.67 seconds at the National Championships. With this golden finish, he has officially broken the Under-20 world record previously held by the legendary Usain Bolt.

At age 18, Bolt’s fastest time was 19.93 seconds. Gout has not only surpassed that but also became the first Australian sprinter in history to clock under 20 seconds in the 200m category.

The “Next Bolt” in the Making

Gout’s long strides, upright running posture, and explosive closing speed have naturally drawn comparisons to the Jamaican icon. Reflecting on his achievement, Gout said, “I have been waiting for this moment.”

While Bolt went on to clock 19.75 seconds during the 2008 Olympics and later set untouchable world records, Gout is arguably ahead of the curve at the same age. However, the young athlete remains humble. “At the end of the day, I am just me. I’m doing my job. When I’m on the track, it’s just me and my spikes,” he added.

From South Sudan to Global Stardom

Born in 2007 in Ipswich, Queensland, Gout’s journey is one of resilience. His parents, Bona and Monica, migrated from South Sudan to Australia via Egypt in the mid-2000s to escape conflict.

Gout has been consistently rising through the ranks. In late 2024, he broke Peter Norman’s 56-year-old Australian record. He further made headlines at the 2025 World Championships in Japan by reaching the semifinals.

Future Outlook

Though he will skip this year’s Commonwealth Games, Gout is laser-focused on the upcoming U-20 World Athletics Championships. Experts believe if he maintains this trajectory, he will be the main attraction at the 2028 Olympics, heading into the 100m and 200m events as a top favorite.
