Special Report: Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, has called for expediting reform efforts to ensure national elections are held between December 2025 and June 2026.

The directive came during a meeting with two members of the commission at his official residence, Jamuna, on Saturday afternoon. Among those present were National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and member Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar.

During the meeting, Professor Ali Riaz and Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar briefed the Chairman on the commission’s progress.

They reported that separate discussions with political parties regarding the recommendations of various reform commissions are ongoing. So far, talks have been held with eight parties, and a meeting with the BNP is scheduled for next Thursday.

They also mentioned that public awareness campaigns and opinion-gathering initiatives have been launched to assess support for the reform process.

Dr. Yunus emphasized the need to accelerate discussions with political parties and advance the overall reform agenda to meet the target of holding national elections between December 2025 and June 2026.
