Inside Salman Khan’s Days Behind Bars: Bollywood Superstar Reflects on Jail Conditions and Resilience
Salman Khan’s legal troubles trace back to the infamous 1998 blackbuck poaching case registered during the filming of Hum Saath-Saath Hain.
In 2006, he was sentenced to five years in prison before securing bail shortly after. More than a decade later, in 2018, a court convicted him again in the same case, leading to another brief stay in prison before he was once more granted bail.
Reflecting on the stark reality of prison life, the actor recalled the severe overcrowding and lack of basic amenities. “Many years ago, when I was in jail, there were iron bars in front of us.
About 60 to 70 people were packed into a very small space, with only a single Indian-style bathroom shared by everyone,” Khan shared in the show’s promotional clip. He added that the facility was often infested with lizards and overwhelmed with dirty water.
Despite the grim surroundings, Khan maintained a disciplined mindset—a perspective he previously discussed on his nephew Arhaan Khan’s podcast, Dumb Biryani. Known for his rigorous work ethic, the actor emphasized perseverance over making excuses.
Living Beyond Comfort:
Addressing modern attitudes toward fatigue and sleep, Khan remarked on how he managed through the ordeal. He noted that while he typically survives on just one to two hours of sleep a night, prison offered a unique kind of rest simply because there was no alternative activity available.
“In places where there was nothing to do—like in jail—I just slept, because there was literally nothing else to do,” he explained, urging people to stay focused on work, family, and support systems no matter the circumstances.
Salman Khan’s candid admissions serve as a rare reflection from one of Indian cinema’s biggest icons, highlighting how discipline and mental endurance helped him navigate one of the most publicized legal sagas in Bollywood history.
