Report from Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) has arrested actress Meher Afroz Shaon from her residence in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, on Thursday evening. The arrest was confirmed by Additional Police Commissioner (Detective) of DMP, Rezaul Karim Mallik.
He stated that Shaon was detained on charges of conspiring against the state. Investigations are ongoing, and she has been taken to the DB office for questioning. Further details will be disclosed later.
Sources indicate that Shaon recently attended a secret meeting of the Awami League, which sparked widespread criticism on social media. Her arrest followed shortly after the controversy.
In a related incident, a fire was reported at Shaon’s residence near Narundi Railway Station in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila on Thursday evening. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
