Crime Desk; Dbarta24 — In a major citywide security drive, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 418 individuals across various neighborhoods in the capital over a 24-hour period. Among the DMP’s eight crime divisions, the Mirpur Division recorded the highest number of arrests, apprehending 135 suspects.
The details of the extensive drive were confirmed on Wednesday morning by Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the DMP.
Division-Wise Arrest Breakdown and Cases Filed
According to official DMP sources, police operations were carried out simultaneously across multiple police station areas in the capital. A total of 65 separate cases have been filed against the arrested individuals in connection with various criminal offenses and illicit activities.
A breakdown of the arrests across the eight DMP divisions reveals:

Seizure of Illegal Arms, Ammunition, and Narcotics
During the coordinated raids, law enforcement officers recovered a substantial amount of illegal firearms, sharp weapons, dangerous narcotics, and surveillance gear.
The seized items include:

Weapons & Ammo: 3 foreign-made pistols, 5 magazines, 38 rounds of live ammunition, 1 Chinese axe, 1 switchblade, and remnants of exploded crude bombs (cocktails).

Drugs: 4,439 Yaba tablets and 1.11 kg of marijuana (ganja).

Communication & Electronic Equipment: 3 walkie-talkies with 2 chargers, 9 mobile phones, and 372 mobile SIM cards.

Vehicles & Cash: 1 HiAce microbus, 2 shoulder bags, and BDT 24,850 in cash.
In addition to the physical seizures, police officers successfully rescued two victims during the operations.
Legal Action Underway
ADC Niaz Mehedi emphasized that the drives were conducted as part of the DMP’s continuous efforts to maintain law and order, dismantle criminal networks, and eradicate illegal drug trade across Dhaka.
“Legal proceedings and formal processing against all the arrested suspects are currently underway at their respective police stations,” the DMP official stated. Police drives are expected to continue in vulnerable zones across the capital to ensure public safety.
