Bangladesh at UN: Immediate Rohingya Repatriation Urged for Sustainable Solution

International Desk — Bangladesh has strongly reiterated that the only sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis lies in their swift and safe repatriation to Myanmar.

Amb. Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized that sheltering over a million refugees for nearly a decade is unsustainable for the host nation.

The statement was shared in a press release issued by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the UN in New York on Saturday (June 20). The remarks were made during a briefing by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar.

“The root of the Rohingya crisis lies in Myanmar, and its permanent solution must be found there,” Ambassador Chowdhury stated.

He further highlighted that hosting approximately 1.2 million Rohingya refugees has placed immense social, economic, environmental, and security burdens on Bangladesh.

Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to a peaceful resolution, he urged international partners to intensify diplomatic efforts and engagement to create a favorable environment for the refugees’ immediate return to their homeland.
