Health Desk ; Dhaka — The dengue situation in Bangladesh continues to worsen, with three more fatalities and 372 new hospitalizations recorded across the country in the 24 hours ending Monday morning.

According to the latest bulletin released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the fresh casualties bring the national death toll from the mosquito-borne viral disease to 37 this year.

Regional Breakdown of New Admissions

The DGHS reported that among the newly admitted patients between Sunday morning and Monday morning, the highest concentration of cases was recorded in the Dhaka Division (outside the city corporations), with 103 patients admitted to local hospitals.

Other affected regions include:

  • Barishal Division: 67 cases

  • Chattogram Division: 54 cases

  • Dhaka South City Corporation: 52 cases

  • Khulna Division: 43 cases

  • Dhaka North City Corporation: 22 cases

  • Mymensingh Division: 21 cases

  • Rangpur Division: 6 cases

  • Rajshahi Division: 4 cases

Rapid July Surge Alarms Health Officials

Data indicates a sharp spike in infections and mortality since the beginning of July. Of the 10,857 total hospital admissions recorded so far this year, nearly 44%—amounting to 4,753 cases—have been reported in July alone.

Similarly, July has proven to be the deadliest month of the year so far, accounting for 19 out of the total 37 dengue-related deaths.

By comparison, the country recorded two deaths each in January and February, one in May, and 13 in June, while March and April saw no recorded fatalities.

Public health experts warn that the ongoing rainy season could accelerate mosquito breeding, urging local authorities to intensify vector-control efforts and citizens to eliminate standing water around their residences.
